Our Purpose is to inspire people to live an active life. It drives everything we do and we are obsessed with achieving this.
But how did we get here?
Matthew Bucknall, our Founder and Group CEO, started Virgin Active in 1997 when Sir Richard Branson asked him to research across the globe and create the best health clubs in the world. Matthew opened Virgin Active’s first club in Preston in 1999. A combination of new builds, club acquisitions and strategic club disposals has helped create the Virgin Active of today; a business with over 240 clubs and more than 1.2 million members across eight countries.
So, how do we succeed as a business in inspiring people to live an active life? It’s simple really… through our amazing people. This is why we think it is really important to make, and keep, a big promise to them:

Our PT AcademyBut how did we get here?

The PT Academy is an ongoing development programme for our Personal Trainers, providing them with the foundations to be a business driven PT, focusing on the experience their clients have to increase acquisition and retention. Not only does this allow our PTs to manage and grow their own business but it also supports career development, outlining and guiding them through the steps they need to reach higher PT levels, and higher rates of pay.
Covering a range of topics including Sales, Business Acumen, and Exercise Experience, the PT Academy aims to build on existing fitness knowledge to support successful and high performing Personal Trainers.
