Leo Group is one of the UK’s leading specialists in animal by products and renewable energy. We play a critical role in the food and agricultural industries collecting and processing material – which is converted into meals and oils for use in pet food, cosmetics, oleochemicals and renewable fuel.
A family-run company started in Halifax the 1970’s, we now employ a workforce of more than 800 people across our operational sites in the UK, Europe and South Africa and export our products worldwide.
Over the last four decades we have been at the forefront of modernising the rendering industry. Every year we collect and processes in excess of 1.25 million tonnes of waste material. From this processing operation we produce 130,000 tonnes of protein meal and 70 million litres of purified fats per year. Biopower processes 60,000 tonnes of material per year and produces 55MW of electricity to power 120,000 households.
We are also at the heart of renewable energy with several investments in solar, wind and biomass. We are continually upgrading and investing in our sites to make them as environmentally friendly as possible. The overall aim is for all our processing sites to be run using 100% renewable energy.

LEO GROUP'S HEAD OFFICESituated in Halifax, the Group’s central functions of accounts, environmental and technical, health & safety, HR and PR are based at this facility. With our raw pet food operation, Omega Proteins Halifax; transport division, Haulage Holdings; and Leo Sawrij Ltd, which manages our property portfolio, also located at the site.
OMEGA PROTEINS PENRITHOmega Proteins Penrith is Leo Group’s only category 3 animal by-products rendering plant and also our largest, most environmentally friendly site. The plant produces oils and meals for use predominantly in pet food but also in the biofuel, cosmetics, oleo chemical and power industries.
OUR TRANSPORT DIVISIONOur transport division, The Haulage (Holdings) Organisation Ltd (HH), owns and operates a large modern fleet of specialist vehicles dedicated to serving the needs of Leo Group’s companies.
With operating centres in Kintore (Aberdeenshire), Dumfries, Penrith, Attleborough and Halifax, HH collects from and delivers to Leo Group suppliers and customers throughout the UK.
