AAC MENTORSHIP PROGRAM: GROWING NEW AAC SPECIALISTS

SPG’s network of experienced AAC Specialists provide monthly trainings, open labs, onsite guidance, and online consultations to help our SLPs become knowledgeable and competent with up-to-date AAC tools and techniques. The second year of this exciting program consists of an “AAC Internship Year.” Participants are assigned a SPG AAC Specialist who will provide support, guidance, and consultation both on and off site.

RESOURCES

Employees have free access to online virtual toolkits and are provided with the opportunity to either attend in person or participate via live webinar, SPG’s complementary, professional growth trainings. SPG’s quarterly Employee Newsletter is packed full of helpful tips, recent legal mandates/regulations, evidence-based interventions, upcoming trainings, useful websites and much, much more. SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS (SIGs)

SPG is proud to offer employees the opportunity to join one or more of the following Special Interest Groups:

1. Cultural & Linguistic Diversity Special Interest Group

The CLD SIG was designed for bilingual SLPs and SLPs serving children of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, but the dialogue and resources shared within this SIG are relevant to a number of professional disciplines. The group is meant to be a forum for collaboration, to support each other, and to learn from our collective knowledge, skills, perspectives, and experiences related to cultural and linguistic diversity issues in our fields. Membership in the CLD group facilitates access to information and interconnectedness with SPG colleagues through a Google group and periodic trainings and events.

2. Interdisciplinary ABA Special Interest Group

SPG employees across all disciplines are invited to help shape the iABA forum into a space for conversation, consultation, and collaboration. Clients with challenging behaviors often receive services from a variety of service providers. The science of ABA offers evidence-based practices to decrease therapy-interfering behaviors and maximize treatment outcomes. Members of iABA will benefit from the collective knowledge and experience of their SPG colleagues, including Board Certified Behavior Analysts. In addition, iABA promotes dialogue on addressing potential barriers to collaboration with behavior analysts, such as differing conceptual frameworks, professional jargon, and perceptions of encroachment.

3. Augmentative & Alternative Communication/Assistive Technology Special Interest Group

The AAC/AT SIG is predominantly composed of SLPs, but is relevant to a number of professional disciplines. The AAC/AT SIG is meant to be an open forum for all SPG professionals to ask and answer questions, problem solve, share resources, and make relevant announcements – all AAC and AT topics. Membership in the AAC/AT group facilitates access to information and interconnectedness with SPG colleagues through a Google group and periodic trainings and events.
